Wonderful Starling roost at Chelmarsh
Sunday 18th December 2016:
Dave, Joe, Stuart, Dave B - more work clearing the side of the scrape followed by a roost attempt to catch Starlings. Only a few caught, but treated to an estimate c2,000 birds - most of which went down either towards net 7 of CES or on the reservoir.

Excellent Reed Bunting roost catch - missed the Starlings

More work on the side of the scrape clearing trees etc.
Hedge nets put up for feeders, and 2 nets on iron path and 2 to side of scrape in hope of catching roost of Starlings present over last week or so.
Birds caught: Coal Tit 1 (0), Blue Tit 15 (6), House Sparrow 2 (0), Dunnock 1 (0), Reed Bunting 32 (2), Great Tit 1 (1), Marsh Tit 1 (1), Great Spotted Woodpecker 2 (0), Long Tailed Tit 1 (5), Lesser Redpoll 1, Nuthatch 0 (1), Starling 1 (0)
Total birds caught: 74
Also about: Buzzard, Teal, Cetti's (v active at dusk, ignored tape lure all afternoon), 500+ Starling, Pied Wagtail

Linda and Stuart - frost off the cars at 4am ... lovely morning once the day got going.

Another failed Sand Martin roost catch
Saturday 9th April 2016:
Stuart & Linda main reed bed.
Three nets. A small flock of 25-30 Sand Martins came in and flew around briefly towards dusk but did not come in to roost. 1 Reed Bunting caught.
Other birds: 3 Curlew, possible ping heard by both, but very briefly ...

Feeders busy, no roost of note

Stu and Dave doing some preparatory work for the Spring, with a couple of nets up by the feeders.

Total : 19 new, 18 retraps = 37 birds
