CES 3 Good numbers of warblers in reed bed

Sunday 29th May 2016:


Joe, Linda, Stuart - nice a light, still cold at 4.30am - reeds only about 1/3 height.


Birds caught:  Reed Warbler 10/9 ;  Long-Tailed Tit 3/1;  Sedge Warbler 3/5;  Robin 3/0 ;  Reed Bunting 2/1;  Whitethroat 4/0; Marsh Tit 0/1;  Blackbird 2/0;  Blue Tit 0/1;  Bullfinch 1/0;  Dunnock 0/3;  Song Thrush 1/0;  Chiffcaff 1/1;   Wren 0/1;  Great Tit 0/1


Total birds : 53


Also ringed - 2 Lapwing and 2 Oystercatchers on scrape


Also seen:  Cuckoo,  Grey Heron, Buzzard, Kestrel

CES 2 : Some good warblers - but where are the Willow Warblers?

Sunday 15th May 2016


Stuart and Linda, cold start, some sunshine on nets ... otherwise good conditions


Birds ringed:
Reed Bunting 2 + (1); Sedge Warbler 5 + (3 inc a Paris ring, different to last time); Blue Tit (1);  Reed Warbler 5 + (7); Whitethroat 1;  Song Thrush (1);  Bullfinch 2;  Wren 1 + (1); Garden Warbler 3;  Blackbird 2; Lesser Whitethroat 1;  Dunnock 1 = (3)
Total 40 birds.


Other birds seen / heard :  Lapwing with 4 chicks, 2 Stock Dove,  Cuckoo

CES 1: Cold start, some good warblers

1st May 2016:


Linda and Stuart - frost off the cars at 4am ... lovely morning once the day got going.


Birds caught:  non brackets = new, ( ) = retrap or control


Blackcap  2, Sedge Warbler 6 (1)*, Dunnock 2 (1), Reed Bunting 2 (1),  Wren 2 (3), Blackbird 1 (1),  Song Thrush 2,  Chiffchaff 2,  Whitethroat 1,  Reed Warbler 2 (1), Blue Tit 1


Of interest: the controlled Sedge Warbler, net 3, was a Paris ringed bird.
