CES 2 : Reed Warblers in reasonable numbers

Sunday 17th May 2015:

Nets set up quickly with a full team of Dave, Joe, Linda & Stuart. Joined by Miles.
Good conditions, but cold and few birds singing or moving - quiet.

Totals:  Dunnock 4 (2),  Sedge Warbler 1 (2), Reed Warbler 5 (7), Chiffchaff 2, Wren 0 (3), Reed Bunting 1 (1), Song Thrush 1, Blackcap 1, Blackbird 1

31 birds in total

Also seen:  Cuckoo, 2 Common Tern, Lapwing, Oystercatcher, Buzzard, 1 Swallow

Ringing Demonstration at Eardington Nature Reserve Grand Opening

Sunday 10th May 2015:

Dave, Joe and Linda set nets in less than ideal conditions, but were pleased with a variety of species to show to the public and to take the opportunity to explain the value of the ringing scheme and of the Chelmarsh RG activities nearby.

The following birds were caught:

2 Green Woodpecker,  3 Dunnock,  2 Chiffchaff,  2 Greenfinch,  1 Robin,  3 Blue Tit,  1 Coal Tit and 2 Blackbird

Start of CES for 2015 at Chelmarsh

Sunday 4th May 2015:

Bankk Holiday Monday, relatively mild and still conditions having been prevented day previously by very heavy rain.  Joe and Stuart put up the nets.

Last year saw 34 birds caught between set up and 11am, this year saw 35 in total. Numbers in brackets are retraps in addition to unringed birds caught.

Wren 0(4), Reed Warbler 1(3), Dunnock 2(2), Sedge Warbler 10(2), Robin 1(0), Blackcap 1(0), Great Tit 1(0), Bullfinch 1(0), Reed Bunting 4(2), Chiffchaff 1(0)

Other birds about:  2 Oystercatcher on eggs on long island,  3 Lapwing,  2 Grey Heron, lots of singing Whitethroat, 1 Buzzard
